July 17, 2021. Los Angeles

Police shoot, beat, chase, and arrest anti-fascist counterprotestors yesterday. The counter-protestors began demonstrating outside a Proud Boy anti-trans rally at WiSpa. The police beat clearly marked press and shot either a rubber bullet or bean bag at a woman at point blank range. The police even got an AMBER alert sent out citywide as part of their suppression of the ant-fascist protest.

Police explicitly protect fascism and fascists.

ive been buying more stuff on bandcamp because it supports indie artists way more than spotify

meridianowl

reminder to buy on bandcamp fridays!

these specific friday events (that do not happen every friday, it varies)?

artists get 100% of what you pay for their work.
On bandcamp friday all proceeds go to the artist.

joematar

bandcamp fridays are usually the first friday of every month though right now there isn't one until August 6th, 2021. though this Friday 6/18 they're giving all the money they usually take to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund

also I'd be remiss to not rudely stick my bandcamp on here under this info

monmouth-manufacturing

and even if you don’t buy stuff on bandcamp fridays, bandcamp still pays artists 80-85%, whereas spotify only pays artists less than half a cent per stream.

so if you like listening to someone’s music on spotify, also support them on bandcamp if you’re able to!

everyone's all for disabled rights & anti-capitalism until your co-worker does the dishes slowly, or gets confused when given directions, or needs to be trained on how to do something that you think is fairly simple, or this or that or whatever lack of ability they have that makes you start to devalue them as a person and call them "useless" for not being a perfect cog in the capitalist machine

like sorry my existing makes your job harder but maybe direct your anger & aggression upwards instead of stamping down vulnerable groups who are just trying to survive and have gone their whole life being abused and screamed at for not being "good enough" or for being Inconvenient or a Burden

While it might be illegal (according to the national labor board) to fire a worker for participating in a strike, the law only protects "lawful strikes" and it's your word against your bosses, and you'd need to build a case, find a lawyer, and sue. (All while unemployed because you'd have just been fired!) Paying for lawyers is one of the reasons unions collect dues.

You'd also need a strike fund to pay for stuff you'd need while striking. While saving up yourself is possible, this is primarily what union dues are for.

You'd also definitely want a union because then you could rally funds and community support. Your boss can't afford to fire all of you.

Don't stay home from work just because a Twitter post told you to. Organize, because it's the only way to survive under capitalism.

On the off-chance that people don’t know this...

This style of bridge dates from the days when barges were towed by horses. When the towpath switched to the opposite side of the canal, the horse would, obviously, clippy-clop over a bridge and happily plod off again. Now, the automatic way to do this would be like this:

image

However, note that rope (black line) between the horse (brown blob) and the barge (red blob). If you cross the bridge the automatic way, it all goes a bit....

image

However, if you cross the bridge like THIS

image

it all works out fine!

Now, sure, you could trust people to remember how to cross a bridge. But there are a lot of numpties out there, and people were working extremely long days and were extremely tired. Also, the canals were BUSY. One boat getting snarled up was the equivalent of the Ever Given.

So, instead, the canal companies built Numpty-Proof Bridges.

They also had the benefit that the horse could be left to plod along on its own, rather than needing human guidance. (I have no idea how this worked. My horse would have her nose buried in the grass and wouldn’t go anywhere, if I left her to it.)
